Il est commandé à Aharon d’élever de la lumière dans les lampes de la Ménorah, et la tribu de Lévi est initiée dans le service du sanctuaire.
Un « second Pessa’h » est instauré en réponse à la requête « Pourquoi serions-nous lésés ? » d’un groupe de Juifs qui n’avaient pas pu offrir le sacrifice pascal en son temps, car ils étaient alors rituellement impurs. D.ieu prescrit à Moïse les procédures relatives aux voyages et aux campements du peuple d’Israël dans le désert, et le peuple en formations quitte le mont Sinaï auprès duquel il avait campé pendant près d’un an.
Le peuple est mécontent du « pain céleste » (la manne) qu’il reçoit et exige à Moïse de lui procurer de la viande. Moïse désigne 70 anciens, à qui il transmet une émanation de son esprit, pour l’assister dans la pesante tâche de gouverner le peuple. Myriam parle négativement au sujet de Moïse et est punie par la lèpre ; Moïse prie pour sa guérison et la communauté toute entière attend son retour pendant sept jours.

ELEVER LA MENORA :
La Paracha Béhaalotekha s’ouvre avec le commandement à Aaron d’allumer les lampes de la Ménora, le candélabre à sept branches qui se dressait dans le Sanctuaire. Le symbolisme de la Ménora et de l’acte d’allumage est le thème que le Rabbi aborde dans ce discours, ainsi que l’exemple que représente le service d’Aaron.
Aaron, dont les devoirs comme Grand-Prêtre sont décrits dans notre Paracha, était connu pour l’amour qu’il portait à chaque créature. Hillel dit de lui dans la Michna : « Sois l’un des disciples d’Aaron, aimant la paix et recherchant la paix, aimant tes semblables et les attirant vers la Torah
Cet aspect de la vie d’Aaron est suggéré dans notre Paracha, qui débute avec le commandement : « Lorsque tu allumeras (littéralement élèveras) les lampes, les sept lampes devront projeter leur lumière vis-à-vis de la face du candélabre. »3
Les lampes de la Ménora du Sanctuaire sont un symbole de l’âme juive — « L’âme de l’homme est la lampe de l’Éternel ». Et les sept lampes, les branches de la Ménora, sont les sept espèces de l’âme juive. La tâche d’Aaron était d’élever chaque âme, de faire apparaître le Divin à l’intérieur du Juif, Divin dissimulé dans son subconscient.
Nos Sages ont cherché une explication au fait que le mot « élèveras » (בְּהַעֲלֹתְךָ) est employé au lieu de celui plus évident de « allumeras ».
